In cooperation with Distribution Company Pilot Films and Production Company Axman Production, we would like to invite you to the sneak-preview screening of the Polish film Fugue directed by Agniezska Smoczyńska and premiered at this year´s Critics´ Week section at MFF Cannes. Director together with producer Agniezska Kurzydlo will be having a discussion with the audience after the screening. The talk will be hosted by Lenka Tyrpakova, programmer of Karlovy Vary IFF and apart from the actual film Fugue, Smozcyńska debut feature The Lure, important world film festivals appearances and Czech-Polish coproduction will be also topics of discussion.

Agnieszka Smoczyńska (b. 1978, Wrocław, Poland) studied film direction at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice. Her distinctive style began to emerge early on in student films that impressed the juries at numerous international film festivals. Her short film Aria Diva (2007), describing the temptations of a life free of responsibility and the restraints of stability, won a series of national awards at the festival in Kraków. The director allows her imagination to run wild in her feature-film debut The Lure (2015), a heady mix of childhood memories and elements from all kinds of genres – melodramatic fairy tale, musical, thriller and horror. The film won Sundance’s Special Jury Prize for its unique vision and design and also took away awards from the festivals in Nashville and Sofia. Agniezska´s second feature film Fugue which was made in the coproduction of Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden premiered at the Critics' Week section of this year´s Iff Cannes. Czech coproducer is Axman production of Karla Stojáková.


Agnieszka Kurzydlo has been associated with the film industry since 1992. Within Zentropa International Poland, she co-operated on such co-productions as Antichrist (2009) by Lars von Trier and Sponsoring (2011) by Małgorzata Szumowska. She is a founder of the MD 4 production company and has produced such films as "In the Name of ..." (2013) by Małgorzata Szumowska, "Kebab & horoscope" (2014) by Grzegorz Jaroszuk and "Czerwony pająk" (2015) by Marcin Koszałka. With her production company, she has already coproduced several Czech films in the past.
